Changed your mind? Cancelling is simple

You can cancel your Smart Cover policy at any time by notifying us in writing. Cancel within your first 14 days for a full refund (provided no claim has been made or is pending), or cancel later, and your refund then depends on how you pay. Here's exactly how it works.

In short

You can cancel your Smart Cover policy at any time by contacting us in writing. If you cancel within 14 days of receiving your documents or your purchase date (whichever is later), you'll get a full refund and cancellation is immediate, provided no claim has been made or is pending. After that, you can still cancel at any time: on monthly or quarterly plans no further premiums are charged (but premiums already paid aren't refunded), and on annual plans you get a pro-rata refund for complete unexpired months, less a £25 admin fee , unless a claim, or an incident that could give rise to a claim, has occurred, in which case no pro-rata refund is due. This page summarises the policy; your full policy Terms & Conditions and IPID are the governing terms.

Two simple scenarios

Your refund depends on timing

Whether you get a full refund comes down to one thing first: are you still within your 14-day cooling-off period?

Full refund

If you cancel within 14 days of receiving your policy documents or your date of purchase, whichever is later, you'll receive a full refund of any premiums paid, and your cancellation takes effect immediately. This is provided no claims have been made or are pending.

Cancel any time

You can still cancel at any time by notifying us in writing. What you get back then depends on whether you pay monthly, quarterly or annually, and whether a claim has been made.

What you get back

Once your 14-day cooling-off period has passed, your refund is calculated based on how you pay for your cover.

How Smart Cover refunds are calculated by payment type, within and after the 14-day cooling-off period
How you payWithin 14 days (cooling-off)After 14 days
Monthly or quarterly Full refund of premiums paid, effective immediately (if no claims made or pending) No further monthly or quarterly premiums are charged. Premiums you've already paid are not refunded.
Annual Full refund of premiums paid, effective immediately (if no claims made or pending) A pro-rata refund for each complete unexpired month remaining on your policy, less a £25 administration fee. No pro-rata refund is due if a claim, or an incident that may give rise to a claim, has occurred.

Your policy is cancelled once any outstanding payments have been received. If a claim, or an incident that may give rise to a claim, has occurred during the policy period, no pro-rata refund will be due on annual policies.
