Dishwasher insurance cover is priced per appliance based on its age and value, and you can save more by covering multiple appliances on one policy: 20% off for 3+, 25% off for 5+ and 30% off for 7+. If your dishwasher won't drain because of a covered mechanical or electrical breakdown, such as a failed drain pump or motor, an engineer can diagnose and repair the covered fault, subject to your policy terms and limits. Standing water caused by a blockage from food debris is usually a maintenance issue, so keeping the filter clean is important.

Dishes coming out dirty can be caused by a covered breakdown, for example a failed wash pump, a faulty heating element that won't heat the water, or a water inlet fault. An engineer can diagnose the cause and repair the covered fault. Poor results from blocked spray arms, a dirty filter or the wrong detergent are maintenance matters, not breakdowns.

Cover applies to sudden mechanical and electrical breakdowns and accidental damage, which can include a breakdown of a component such as the pump, valve or door seal that causes a leak. Leaks from gradual wear, poor maintenance or pre-existing faults are excluded. Always check your policy terms and act quickly to limit any water damage.

Dishwasher insurance is available for machines up to 10 years old at policy inception. Within that range, cover for older machines may be limited to repair-only or a reduced replacement contribution, depending on age. Please check the policy terms. Pre-owned or second-hand machines and pre-existing faults aren't covered, and proof of purchase is required.

A dishwasher deals with grease, food residue and limescale on every cycle, and repairs can be costly, often £70 to £150 or more, while a new machine can be £250 to £500 or more. Insurance can be worth it if you'd rather spread that risk into an affordable regular payment than face a large one-off bill. Whether it suits you depends on your machine's age, condition and budget.

Dishwasher insurance doesn't cover pre-existing faults, routine maintenance (like clearing a blocked filter), manufacturer's defects (covered by the warranty), deliberate damage, pre-owned or second-hand machines, or the delivery, installation and removal of a faulty machine.
