Sustainability FAQs
How does home emergency and appliance cover help sustainability?
Our cover plans are built around repairing rather than replacing wherever a repair is possible and appropriate. Fixing a boiler or appliance can help extend its working life, which may reduce the waste and manufacturing footprint linked to producing a new unit. Where a repair is a suitable option, it can also help keep electrical goods out of landfill.
Are Smart Cover plan documents paperless?
By default, we issue plan documents, renewal notices, and service updates digitally, which can help reduce paper, printing, and postal emissions. If you would prefer a paper copy, you can request one, and we will provide it. This means you can choose the option that suits you best.
How does Smart Cover reduce emissions from engineer callouts?
We work with a network of local engineers and aim to send the nearest available qualified engineer to each job, which can help keep travel to a minimum. Where possible, we also start with a phone-based diagnosis, which can sometimes resolve a fault without the need for a visit at all. The outcome depends on the nature of the problem and what the job requires.
Does an annual boiler service reduce energy use?
A well-maintained boiler typically burns fuel more efficiently than one that has been neglected. Annual servicing, which is included in eligible plans, can help keep your boiler running efficiently for longer. In many cases, this may support lower gas consumption and could help reduce household bills, though the exact effect will depend on your boiler and how you use it.
